| Growing in Goodness May is a time of planting and the growth of new plants. It would be foolish for us to plant a new seed and expect instantaneous results. Although some of us would prefer such an easy option, we know that nurturing a seed requires commitment to a growing process and a firm belief that the seed will become the plant it is intended to be and bear the fruit it is intended to bear. So it is with “growing” children in Jesus. The seed of the fruit of the Spirit is given to each child at baptism or when they become a part of God’s family through the Word. Parents nurture this seed through daily contact with God’s Word in family devotions and prayer. Teachers nurture this seed through classroom devotions, religion lessons, prayers, teaching subjects from a Christian perspective, and working with students in a Christian atmosphere. As children grow in faith, they come to realize that God has been good to them, that He has given then all good things. Touched by the love of Jesus, they cannot help but show the good news of His great love.
