My How Time Flies!

It’s May and the Lord has blessed us with some beautiful weather and wonderful season for flowers!

  • Midterms go home on May 4 th. Please return the bottom slip with any questions or concerns, and sign.
  • Track is in full swing. Congrats to all who have succeeded in making state in their event.
  • This is award season as well. On Wednesday evening, May 5 th, the Elks Club in Pekin will be honoring Nicole Carson and Kristen Davis at a special dinner. On May 6 th, Sierra Pool will be honored for her achievements here at Good Shepherd and within the church family, at the YWCA luncheon at the Pekin Country Club. Wednesday evening, the Rotary Club will honor Zach Fuelberth for his academic success. We are very proud of all of our 8 th graders and wish them all of God’s blessings as they begin their high school careers.
  • 7 th & 8 th graders are studying WWII and the Holocaust. They have been assigned a book to read and a project to complete by May 17 th.
  • Math for 8 th grade is still Geometry, but we are learning more about area and surface area. Next, we will study solids and formulas for finding volume. By the end of the year we will hopefully have time to complete a unit on Trigonometry and Scientific Notation.
  • 8 th graders attended a meeting on Tuesday, May 4 th at PCHS. At this meeting they were introduced to counselors and the principals and deans. It was very informative and all there encouraged students to get involved with something while at the high school in order to meet new people and make their time enjoyable at PCHS. Go Dragons!
  • On May 18 th our class will be traveling to Excel Foundry for a tour of the facility, and pizza for lunch. This is a popular field trip with students. If you are able to drive, or would like to come along, please let me know. It will be from around 10:00 to just after lunch. Times are not exact yet.
  • Don’t forget that our end of the year field trip is May 21 st. We will be traveling to Chicago. Make sure that your money is turned in along with the permission slip.
  • The school carnival will be held in the gym on May 14 th. Supper will be available. Our class is supposed to furnish cakes and/or cookies. These may be turned in to the office on Thursday, May 13 th or on Friday. Come and join in the fun.
  • Isaac Newton was a smart guy, and we are learning all about his three laws of motion in Science class.
  • We are finished with the Spelling book. We only have a few review assignments remaining along with a Mastery Test.
  • In 8 th grade Literature class we are finishing up a unit on Tricksters and will have the test on Wednesday, May 5 th. Next we will be looking at American Heroes.
  • An important note regarding personal information for returning students went home on May 4 th. This form will be used for the Fast Direct system we are using next year at the new school. This form needs filled out and returned no later than Friday, May 7 th. Thanks

April Showers Bring Achievement Tests!

  • Yes, it’s that time again. Achievement tests will be given the week of April 12 th – 16 th. Please make sure your child is well rested, and has a good nutritious breakfast.
  • In Math, we are working on Geometry. Please make sure if your child is in the 8 th grade math class that he/she has a protractor and compass at school. I do not have any extra.
  • Track is in full swing. There are scheduled meets on April 8 th at Midwest Central, and on Saturday, April 17 th at Morton. The track students will be released from school early on April 8 th.
  • In Art, we just finished doing two point perspective pictures. Come and see how well we’ve done.
  • Wednesday, April 7 th, we will take apart some compound machines and find as many simple machines as we can. The test for this chapter in Science is scheduled for Friday, April 9 th.
  • The 7 th and 8 th grade is collecting chapel offering this month for the GSLS Scholarship fund. This money helps those pay tuition who may be having some difficulties paying. Please remember to send those offerings!
  • On Friday, the Chime choir will be playing for the Caterpillar Retirees club in East Peoria. After the program, we will stop at Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch. Permission slips went home on Tuesday, April 6 th.
  • On April 16 th, in the afternoon, Mrs. Watson will give CPR instruction to the 7 th and 8 th grade class.
  • In History we are studying WWI.
  • Unfortunately, none of our chicken eggs hatched. Better luck next year I guess.
