Newsletter for Third Grade

Week of May 17 th –21 st

Monday : Memory assigned and spelling pre-test.

Tuesday : Computer class. (library is done for the year)

Wednesday: 2 nd spelling pre-test and chapel. Please remember to dress nice and bring an offering! We are collecting money to go towards our scholarship fund. Help our flock grow! Choir is from 12:45-1:30 today.

Thursday : Computer class.

Friday : Spelling test and memory is due.

Religion : Making cards for the shut-ins, veggi tales short stories movie, and the movie Acts (stories of Paul and his ministry)

Math: Review, Money Equations, Division with a 2 digit divisor, Test 31, and Longer two digit division.

Science: Visual literacy, study guide and lab, think, talk, write, test over Matter, and Physical Changes lab.

Social Studies: Lesson 2: The Early History of the Southeast, Settlers Come to the Southeast, Pioneers and Backwoodsmen, workbook 46, and Citizen Heroes.

Reading: Ramona Quimby, Age 8 Vocabulary, Meet the Author and read to page 385, read 384-393, practice book pages 166, 205,206, test and short play.

Spelling : Spelling pre-test, activities, and test on Friday. Please review words that were missed on the pre-test with your child. Students will be taking a second pre-test on Wednesday. If they get them all right on either Monday or Wednesday, they do not have to take the test on Friday! www.spellingcity.com

Handwriting: Practice, practice, practice!

  • Our community field trip is now set for Monday, May 24 th. (We walk) We will be leaving here promptly at 8:50am and will be returning at 3:00/3:15pm. We will be visiting Pekin Shoe Repair, Maurie’s, the Police Station, the Courthouse, and Peek’n Pottery. The project that we will be working on will require us to finish on Tuesday after lunch. We will walk there and back by 3:00 on the 25 th. The permission form will cover both days. A permission form was sent home today in your child’s folder. Your signature and return of the form is appreciated!
  • Parts have been assigned for the PTL meeting. If you signed that your child will be there, please have them here May 20 th at 6:30. 3 rd graders are in charge of drinks. Please have them here by Thursday morning. Student artwork will be displayed for the year and we will lead a short devotion at the end. Thanks again!
  • The Pekin Public Library is an awesome place to go this summer! Please encourage your child to take part in the summer reading program. Studies have shown that when children don’t read over the summer they can lose up to 2 ½ months of knowledge! A form was sent home with all of the information. If you need another one, please contact me.
  • Library is over for the year and computer class will continue until the last week in May. All 3 rd grade books are in! WAY TO GO!
  • Scholastic book orders will be coming home by Friday and will be due on the 21 st. Sorry for the delay.

Memory work due Friday: The Second Article: I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. (the rest will be next week)
